Repair work and parts are extra but we’ll always talk to you first. When we finish the work we’ll ask for payment; cash, cheque or transfer are fine but we don’t take cards.
Where possible we check the flame picture to see that there are no pale yellow flames as these would indicate a risk of carbon monoxide poisoning! The flames above are clean blue after servicing. Mauve, orange and red tinges in the flames are fine and generally caused by harmless metallic deposits. On many modern, high efficiency appliances the flames are not visible at all and we are more reliant on combustion analyser results.
Lois carrying out a service on a Potterton Suprima in a tight cupboard under a kitchen worktop. Even the correct cupboard ventilation requirements for cooling are specified by the manufacturers.
Open-flued Potterton Kingfisher 2, partially stripped down. The air inlet filters must be kept clean to ensure safe combustion or poisonous flue gases could spill out into the room.
Lovekin also replace gas boilers and install and repair central heating systems. You can find more on the installation page of this site. We supply and fit radiators and radiator valves, central heating circulating pumps, programmers and thermostats. If you’ve got problems with your central heating system or you’re just not sure that it’s working correctly, please feel free to ring us. We’ll be happy to talk to you and we’ll always give you honest, straightforward advice.
If you’re thinking about replacing your boiler, and we think the efficiency savings will not be as much as you’ve been led to believe, we’ll tell you so. We’ll tell you what we think the real efficiency savings might be. You may have been told to change your boiler because parts are no longer available; we’ll tell you honestly if we think the parts are still available, so that you can make an informed choice.
Lovekin work in GU7 and GU8 covering Godalming, Farncombe, Elstead, Milford, Witley, Wormley and Chiddingfold.
If you're looking for online information about central heating problems and fault-finding, we run another web site, lovekin.net. We’ve got a lot more work to do on the design and content of the site but you can find fault-finding articles about Baxi, Potterton, Ideal and Glow-worm gas boilers, Grundfos central heating circulating pumps and Honeywell motorised valves. We also have articles about gas boiler efficiency, central heating system pressure, radiator balancing and condensate drain problems. We’ll be adding more articles to the lovekin.net site when we have time.
Worcester Greenstar Ri. This is a high efficiency or condensing boiler. Changing from an older room-sealed gas boiler will usually save 10% to 20% of heating bills but rarely more. Worcester Bosch, however, provide excellent reliability, service and spares with long warranties available through Worcester Accredited Installers.
Servicing depends on the appliance and the manufacturer. Modern, high efficiency boilers (also known as condensing boilers) almost always require the use of an electronic combustion gas analyser. The manufacturers may specify only a limited strip-down if the combustion analysis figures are within certain ranges; if the figures fall outside the specified range the service will need to be taken to a deeper level.
Older appliances like back boilers and open-flued, floor-standing boilers require a more complete strip-down to be serviced safely. Air intake filters can become blocked with dust and fibre and must be carefully cleaned or combustion may be affected and excessive carbon monoxide may be produced. Because these appliances are open-flued, poisonous flue gases could then spill out into the room. The combustion chamber in room-sealed appliances does not connect with room air so these are inherently safer.
We always check the location of the boiler and the condition of the flue. We also check that the flue operates correctly and, with open-flued appliances, that it pulls well with no spillage of flue gases into the room. Unless the manufacturers specify otherwise, we partially strip the boiler and check and clean the combustion chamber, main burner and injectors and heat exchanger flue-ways. With room-sealed appliances we look for rust damage that might cause a breach in the combustion casing and we check the combustion chamber seals to ensure that no flue gases can pass into room air.
Where possible, we run a flue gas analysis test and check the levels, and ratio, of carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide in the combustion gases. We also check the combustion efficiency. Most older, room sealed gas boilers have a gross combustion efficiency of around 80%. Combustion efficiency for new, high efficiency appliances (condensing boilers) is about 88-90%
